Seize MindPrivacy policy
Seize Mind is built to keep what you tell it on your phone. There is no account, no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. This page sets out what the app keeps, the one thing it sends, and what this website does.
The short version
- What you tell the app stays on your phone. The habit you pick or name, your reason and your history are never sent to us or anyone else.
- One kind of request leaves your phone. The first time you play a ready-made session, the app downloads its recording. That request shows the server which of the listed habits, voices and music you picked, along with your IP address. We keep no record of it.
- A habit you name yourself never touches the network. Its session is spoken by your phone's built-in voice, on the phone.
- No outside code. The app contains no analytics, advertising, crash reporting or other third-party software. We sell nothing to anyone.
- This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
Who we are
Seize Mind (Carpe Mentem) is made by Totte Studios Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, number 17369157. We are the controller for the small amount of personal data described here. You can reach us at hello@tottestudios.com.
What stays on your phone
The app keeps these in its own private storage on your phone:
- the habit you choose from the list, or the one you name yourself
- your reason, if you give one
- your choice of voice and music
- your session count, the date of your last session and your session history
- recordings you have already played, so they start straight away next time
None of this is sent to us or anyone else. Before a session, the app checks what you have named against built-in word lists to decide what safety information to show. That check runs on your phone.
If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, the backup includes this data, as it does for every app. Backups are handled by you and Apple, and we cannot read them.
The one thing that leaves your phone
- What is sent
- A request for one audio file. Its name is a code for one of the ready-made sessions, so it shows which listed habit, voice and music you picked. Like any web request it also carries your IP address, your preferred language and a standard label naming the app and your iPhone's software version.
- Where it goes
- audio.seizemind.com, where the recordings are hosted on Cloudflare.
- When
- The first time you play a ready-made session. After that it plays from your phone.
We have not switched on request logging for the recordings, so we keep no record of who downloaded which session. Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver the file, as any web host must, under its own privacy policy. We rely on our legitimate interest in delivering the recording you asked for.
Never sent: anything you type, a habit you name yourself, your reason or your history.
Helplines
For some habits the safety screen lists services you can contact. Tapping a phone number opens your phone's dialler. The call is between you and that service, and Seize Mind never sees it.
Apple
Apple runs the App Store and iOS, and handles anything it collects under its own privacy policy. If you have chosen in iOS settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may pass us crash reports and aggregated usage figures. You can turn this off in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
Sensitive information
Several of the habits in the app relate to health, which UK data protection law treats as especially sensitive. That is why the app is built to keep them on your phone. The only hint that reaches a server is the session code described above, and we keep no record of it.
Age
Seize Mind is for adults aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Keeping and deleting your data
Everything is on your phone, so it is in your hands.
- Your history: History, then Delete history.
- Your reason, choices and session count: Settings, then Start over.
- Saved recordings: Settings, then Clear downloaded audio.
- Everything: delete the app.
We hold nothing about you, so there is nothing on our side to keep or delete.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive it in a portable form. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk without coming to us first.
To use any of these rights, write to hello@tottestudios.com. We will reply within one month. Because there is no account and we keep no records, we usually hold nothing we could match to you. When that is the case we will say so plainly, and we will not ask you for identity documents.
Not medical care
Seize Mind is a relaxation session for adults. It is not medical care, it is not a medical device, and it is not treatment for any condition, including addiction. If you need to talk to someone now, Samaritans are free on 116 123, any time.
This website
seizemind.com is hosted on Cloudflare. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics or trackers and has no forms. Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks, under its own privacy policy. We have not switched on any logging.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes how it handles data, we will update this page and its date before the change ships. If a future version sends more off your phone, for example to make a recorded session for a habit you name yourself, we will say so here and in the app first.
